With a bachelor’s degree in visual arts and philosophy, Éric Nado was part of the pilot cohort of Lézarts, the first visual arts housing cooperative in Montréal. His work can be found in the permanent collection of the Espacio SOLO Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid, and in private collections in Canada, Germany and the United States, including the Boston Globe and Swizz Beatz’ The Dean Collection.
Since 1999, Nado has been exploring urban remnants, collecting industrial objects, and transforming them into contemporary sculptures. His works are imbued with nostalgia and pay tribute to a certain collective past. Through sculpture-assembly and disassembly-assembly, he transforms and reorganizes certain objects to reveal other possibilities inspired by their forms or intended functions. From metallic and iconic objects, such as typewriters, he seeks to materialize certain ideas and concepts, such as those of memory. His childhood memories of playing with his mother’s typewriter are at the heart of his works, which he calls “typewriter gun.”
