Jean-Pierre Larocque

Jean-Pierre Larocque, a Montreal artist, is equally at home in ceramics and charcoal. A master in the art of being surprised, he discovers his works as they become. On the one hand, he accumulates; earth and dust pile up at the whim of his impulses. On the other hand, he subtracts; erasing the black surfaces on the paper to bring out the light, the volume. The transformation is what interests him.

With a rich and international career, Jean-Pierre Larocque has had more than twenty solo exhibitions, including fifteen in the United States. His works are part of several private and public collections, including those of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. His solo exhibition “Trapping Shadows” opened the new Gardiner Museum of Ceramics in Toronto in 2006.
